Silla Restaurant
I used to pass by this restaurant almost everyday when I drove to the Nine Mile Station during college. Little did I know it is one of the oldest Korean restaurants in the area. It's still around, so it has to be good right? Let's find out!
Food
Flavor and Texture - 50/60
I ordered the Mandu Gook (dumpling soup) with beef – you thought I was going to order the tofu soup didn't you? 😉 The dumplings were made of minced kimchi and pork. The kimchi had a nice briny flavor, which suits my personal preference. That being said, the kimchi did not overpower the pork.
There were only three dumplings in my soup, yet they were quite large. I had to split them with my chopsticks to manage them better. The shredded pieces of beef were not too dry, but I feel if they were cut horizontally against the grain this would improve the tenderness of the meat. The broth had flavors of garlic and onion. The surprising standout were the fresh mushrooms and chives that added another layer of dimension.
Quality/Skillfulness - 8/10
All of the ingredients tasted fresh, and paired well with each other.
Value - 8/10
I feel looks are always deceiving with soup-based dishes. However, the portion and taste are worth the price.
